"Providing innovative and low-cost studio space is critical for enriching Vancouver’s cultural fabric and supporting our talented, emerging artists.”
- Graeme Berglund, artist & creative director
Established in 2014, Volumes Project is a not-for-profit venture setting out to design, construct, and administer purpose-built studio spaces for artists that will be installed in clusters on underutilized urban land, starting in our hometown of Vancouver.
Our goal is to create an economically, socially, and environmentally sustainable framework for art studios – a modular design that is flexible, replicable and scalable. We aim to increase the amount of available space for emerging artists in Vancouver, animate public spaces, reinvigorate communities, and contribute to the cultural fabric of our city.
Volumes has partnered with award-winning architecture firm, Campos Studio to design the modular studio structure with final drawings and renderings to be completed in early 2016.
We are also working in concert with the City of Vancouver to ensure that building codes, environmental guidelines, and security needs are met or exceeded to ensure the safety of the artists and the general public. With the support of our community, we hope to raise enough money to construct the original prototype by the end of this year, and have the first cluster of studios available for occupation by 2017.
