Vancouver has the highest per capita concentration of artists in Canada, and hosts more than 600 exhibits in local museums and galleries each year.
The cultural sector plays an important role in attracting international tourism and private investment, and is integral to Vancouver’s reputation as a diverse and vibrant city. A shortage of financial support, combined with Vancouver’s extremely high property costs, makes renting studio space increasingly difficult for artists. The density of creative professionals in the city and lack of resources means that demand far outstrips supply.
Safe and accessible studio space is imperative to successful artistic practices and supporting the overall well-being of the cultural sector. Cultural vibrancy is at risk, and our mission is to provide the opportunity for emerging artists to continue to work and create in our city.
